The UAB Center for Economic Education (CEE) is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization within the UAB School of Business.
The mission of the UAB CEE is to promote economic and financial literacy by providing continuing economic education resources for teachers in both public and private school systems.
We provide training for in-service teachers and college courses for pre-service teachers pursuing social studies certification. We also host the Alabama Economics Challenge each spring and run the Alabama Stock Market Simulation each fall and spring. These programs enhance K-12 teachers’ and students’ economic educational experience.
We are affiliated with the Alabama Council on Economic Education (ACEE) and accredited by the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) . Both the ACEE and the NCEE are supported by contributions from American business, labor organizations, private foundations and private individuals.
Programs of the UAB Center for Economic Education have reached over 1,500 teachers in the Greater Birmingham and Central Alabama area over the past 10 years.
We are a part of the national network of Centers for Economic Education serving all 50 States and the District of Columbia. The National Association of Economic Educators (NAEE) is our professional association and meets jointly with the NCEE each year.
The Center has developed this new and highly effective Stock Market Simulation program which is now enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of students each fall and spring. Critically acclaimed by teachers and administrators around the nation, it is an excellent tool for teaching the sound principles of investing and learning about the securities industry and our market economy.
The Alabama SMS is the only stock market simulation endorsed by the UAB Center for Economic Education and has been the only simulation that has been used for more than 5 years. It has an outstanding national reputation for successfully engaging studetns and teachers and producing exciting results in economic education and financial literacy.
